Kathy Malone
Kathy Malone, Winemaker Raised in the mountains of Vermont, Kathy has called the Okanagan home for almost three decades. After 24 years winemaking with Mission Hill Family Estate Winery in Westbank, B.C, Kathy made the move to Hillside, one of the Okanagan's pioneer boutique wineries. She’s a product of the Chemistry Co-Operative department at the University of Victoria. Her style produces wines known for their sophisticated characteristics and perfect structure. An expertise and talent fastidiously hatched over 27 years of winemaking. Kathy says, “I believe a gentle touch and minimal intervention make for wine of the utmost character and distinction.” Her yearning to become a more hands-on winemaker facilitated her desire to join our boutique style winery at Hillside. Kathy takes full advantage of the Okanagan lifestyle; delighting in hiking the mountains of B.C., skiing its world class slopes, and tap dancing with Kelowna’s prestigious Rob Card Academy of Dance. She chuckles, “It’s quite a sight to see, all of us old ladies tapping our hearts out on stage!” Far from an “old lady”, this physically fit mother has no trouble keeping up with her male counterparts in the cellar. Following in Mom’s footsteps, her daughter, Marie, shares Kathy’s aptitude in science as she is also studying chemistry at UVIC.
